We have seven+ years experience working with foiling athletes in Hawaii. These athletes have benefited from our componentized paddle system with hot glue assembly; this enables all parts to be swapped or replaced as needed. Ideal for optimization but also in case of damage, this unique system is great for the paddler and better for the environment. The FoilX introduces our new X-Flex high density CNC foam core, which is both stiffer and more resistant to impact, this is combined with new higher modulus carbon laminates to increase strength, reduce weight, and enhance flex properties.

Thanks to our innovative designs, quality manufacturing and attention to detail, our paddles have a very low failure rate. For your peace of mine, we have a standard 1-year warranty to cover faulty manufacturing. Thanks to hot glue assembly it is possible to replace any damaged parts. If you feel that you have an issue which you feel should be covered, please contact us for support.

Yes, if your local SUP store is an official Black Project retail partner they will be able to arrange your new paddle. If they are not currently one of our retailers you can either buy online or ask them to get in contact with us.

Paddle length paddle depends on your height, the type of standup paddling you are doing and the board you use. The correct length will protect your body against injury and maximize your performance. For recreational paddling and inflatables your paddle will be longer while for SUP surfing paddlers use shorter paddles. Use our paddle length guide to determine the correct length. Refer to the paddle specific guides on each product page.
Yes, our 1-piece paddles are assembled with hot glue. You can heat up the shaft just below the handle to remove it, and then shorten the shaft. We have a number of guides on our YouTube channel which explain the process. Be sure to use quality extra-strength, high temp, hot glue and not hobby grade glue. This is particularly useful if you move to different board or change focus.

Choosing the right paddle for your experience, budget, and needs
Blade size depends on paddler weight, height, the type of standup paddling you are doing and any prior medical issues. Bigger blades offer more power and are suited to heavier paddlers while smaller paddler will want to select a much smaller blade size. Many paddlers are using the wrong size blade and that is reducing their enjoyment of the sport. Use our blade size guide to determine the correct size for you.
All Black Project paddles have carbon reinforced edges and can withstand a good amount of abuse. The use of protective tape is not needed for general consumer use.
All Athlete Series and Ultimate Series paddles, as well as our 3-piece travel paddles, are supplied complete with a Black Project Paddle Bag unless otherwise stated. Some models are supplied without a bag. For example, the FoilX does not include a paddle bag. Bag inclusion is clearly shown on each product page. Black Project Paddle Bags can also be purchased separately. Some US and international retailers may offer paddles without a bag at an adjusted price. We strongly recommend protecting your paddle with a quality padded bag, ideally a Black Project Paddle Bag.
Paddles are very expensive to design, produce and ship, hence the price which you pay for your Black Project paddle is extremely reasonable. We have cut out a number of business layers and work directly with customers and smaller independent retailers to ensure that markups are reasonable. If we operated a more traditional business structure paddles would be 50-100% more expensive. Standup paddling is a small sport so it is hard to produce enough units to benefit from mass production and gain significant economies of scale.
Yes, our componentized paddle system enables you to swap or replace parts. If you decide that you want to change blade, shaft, or handle, due to preferences or damage, thanks to our hot glue assembly, this is possible and saves you needing to buy a completely new paddle. This is especially important for SUP foiling.
SUP paddles are not one-size-fits-all, and different factors come into play when determining the ideal paddle length. That’s why many of our SUP paddles offer a wide 30cm (12 inches) range of non-twist adjustment. This means you can easily adjust the paddle length to suit your height, paddle board, water conditions, and paddling style. Black Project Paddles are super high quality/high functioning works of art. The learning curve of progression towards downwind SUP foiling is steep but I am sure that the Black Project Foil X Paddle is the right tool for the job.

After having gotten several race board fins and two other paddles from BP, I decided to add one of these to the collection to learn flatwater paddle ups. All of the BP stuff has been excellent and has shipped quickly. A big factor too is that Chris has been quite helpful and responsive in helping you pick the right size and length. Though still quite light, this one feels like it is particularly strong and will hold up well in this discipline.

Been using this paddle for a few months now for everything from flat water to ocean runs and it’s just so strong and powerful. Have hit the foil a few times and where other brands i have damaged or broken the blade the foil x is still completely good! Very light for the strength too. Can’t be without this paddle now on the large blade for my 90kg. Will need to get a medium blade next to use for higher cadence smaller foils and boards

I bought the FoilX XL, and I love it for ocean downwind runs. The blade is strong and can survive hitting a foil; the flex of the shaft is very gentle on the shoulders, and the shaft grip is amazing. The large blade allows for putting enough force. The paddle is also super light; I’m impressed.

Just love this paddle, it’s the perfect balance between power and smoothness on the water, first flat water takes off are now easier. The paddle looks very solid, making this paddle a great investment over the next years, I also love the glue system which allows easy part replacement. Thanks Chris for all the advices and fast delivery (ordered December 27, received the 31 in France!!).
Foil X the best dw paddle

This FoilX paddle is ridiculously good. Been using it on a ton of downwinders the past 2 months in South Africa and it has just been so awesome. Love the stiffness of the shaft too and the blade is the perfect balance of power and cadence for me at 93kg. So easy to take off and can paddle pump so nicely with it too to get up and over bumps and to keep me up on foil in tricky sections or when i make a mistake in line choice. Blown away. Also the height is perfect at 4cm above my head height. Everything is great from the get go and no tweaking needed!. I didn’t like another brand with a similar “low aspect” shape as I snapped two of their thin shafts mid stroke (first shaft was first use) and couldn’t trust it after that as always felt like it would give way and snap. Their blade had too much angle too and was too low aspect and wide and just felt uncomfortable to use it and I always seemed to hit my rails with it.
Your foilx blade is really feeling perfect. I never seem to slip with it either and hit my board rails or foil like other paddles. My only negative may be that it is a little bit heavier than your other surge and sprint X Paddles but I know it’s because of a stronger construction which I would rather have and lose a bit of weight savings knowing I am a bit safer from breaking a blade alone out at sea deep ocean 🙂

I thought that paddle asking as was carbon made didn’t make the difference. Then I was lucky to try the FOIL X M size from a friend and also if it has an important price, I bought one in L size waiting 90kg. It really changed the power and the stability on my 8.6 board (130lt) I highly recommend also for beginners if they want to become pro’s 🔥💪🏻🔥
