WHY CHOOSE THIS PADDLE?

For SUP surfers looking to catch more waves, rip harder, and experience less fatigue during long sessions, the Surge delivers. The Scooped Dihedral blade bites the water and delivers instant acceleration needed to scratch into set waves or escape the impact zone. To improve stability, the extended tapered scoop ensures you’ll always get a powerful stroke, even if you don’t get the full blade in the water. Thanks to our TEXCARBON construction, the Surge is not only the lightest surf paddle on the market (from 350 gr / 12.35 oz) but also incredibly durable, built to withstand a pounding from the burliest waves. Our smooth blade edges increase safety and blade strength, while also reducing damage to your board’s rails. The L, M, S and XS blades feature our reduced diameter shaft (RDS) for increased comfort, while the XL uses our regular shaft for larger paddlers.

SCOOPED DIHEDRAL BLADE TECHNOLOGY

Featuring Scooped Dihedral shaping, the Surge blade is designed to correct poor alignment. The blade holds the water securely through the power phase, eliminating lateral movement and delivering force in a smooth, efficient manner. The extension of the tapered scoop towards the toe allows the paddle to remain stable and deliver power, even if you fail to get the full blade in the water. The Surge blade is predictable, powerful, and efficient, encouraging the use of smaller, more agile blades.

T-HANDLE

The T-handle was specifically designed for SUP surfing. Featuring a flat front and curved back which fits into your hand comfortably while providing instant feedback regarding your paddle orientation while riding.

100% TEXALIUM & CARBON SHAFT

The Surge paddle is equipped with a 100% Texalium and Carbon shaft, the increased impact resistance of Texalium helps protect paddles against breakage. The silver finish reflects UV rays, reducing sun damage and keeping the shaft cooler on the water. Meanwhile, the textured shaft also enhances grip, while still being gentle on the hands.

BUILT FOR SURFING

The Surge was designed to meet the specific demands of SUP surfing, it has become the paddle of choice for many competitive and recreational SUP surfers worldwide. We set out to create the best SUP surfing paddle on the market—the Surge is that paddle. At the end of the day, we’re SUP surfers too and that inspires what we do.

DESIGNED & BUILT
FOR SURFING

The Surge was designed to meet the specific demands of SUP surfing; it has become the paddle of choice for many competitive and recreational SUP surfers worldwide. We set out to create the best SUP surfing paddle on the market—the Surge is that paddle. At the end of the day, we’re SUP surfers too and that inspires what we do.

SHALLOW 8°
BLADE ANGLE

The shallow 8° blade angle results in a direct and positive feel through the power phase. The lower blade angle allows paddlers to enjoy a more aggressive and efficient paddle stroke. It also results in a slightly shorter paddle length.

STRUCTURAL
BLADE STABILTY

The ridge along the front of the blade increases stiffness both vertically and laterally, resulting in increased strength and enhanced responsiveness. This structure helps the blade maintain better stability for a predictable feel you can count on.

SLIM 26.5mm &
REGULAR 29mm
SHAFT OPTIONS

The Surge paddle is available with both STANDARD (29mm) diameter and SLIM (26.5mm) options depending on blade size. With a range of flex options, each Surge paddle is custom tuned to suit your specific needs.

ROUNDED EDGES
FOR REDUCED
BOARD DAMAGE

We smoothed out all edges and incorporated our slim-line joint to make a sleek and efficient paddle. This increases safety, increases blade strength, and reduces board damage. The slim-line joint system reduces drag through the water and prevents rail damage caused by hard edges.

TEXALIUM, KEVLAR & CARBON CONSTRUCTION

The Surge paddle is equipped with a 100% Texalium and Carbon shaft, the increased impact resistance of Texalium helps protect paddles against breakage. The silver finish reflects UV rays, reducing sun damage and keeping the shaft cooler on the water. Meanwhile, the textured shaft also enhances grip, while still being gentle on the hands. We paired this shaft with a blade and handle built in a red kevlar and 24T carbon construction for a unique and sleek aesthetic. On the inside, the laminates are optimized to increase strength and reduce weight, while maintaining an optimized flex required in a surfing paddle.

THE LIGHTEST
SUP SURFING PADDLE

Throughout the design process, all unnecessary weight was removed. This effort has resulted in the Surge being the lightest SUP surfing paddle available. For example, a Surge Medium that’s cut to 69″ (175cm) is only 13.2 ounces (373 grams), approximately 50 grams lighter than any other high-end surf paddle. This reduced weight translates into an improved paddling experience, while also being easier on your body.

SHAFT STIFFNESS

This table is not designed to be a one-size-fits-all solution, shaft choice will depend on the paddler’s preference, height, and any previous injury. The recommended column is suitable for most people. If you are taller than average for your weight, consider a stiffer option and if you are shorter than average for your weight consider a more flexible paddle shaft. If you need help in selecting the right shaft flex, please view our 5-step guide, the FAQs or contact us.

PADDLE LENGTH FOR SURFING

This table is not designed to be a one-size-fits-all solution, and recommended lengths may vary by approximately 1″ (2.5cm) depending on the paddler’s preference. It’s easier to cut your paddle down than to glue on more shaft (especially with our hot glue construction), so we err on the side of caution by recommending the longer end of the spectrum.

DESIGNING THE ULTIMATE SURF PADDLE

NOT SURE HOW TO CHOOSE A SUP PADDLE?

5-STEP GUIDE TO CHOOSING YOUR NEW SUP PADDLE.

LEARN ABOUT TYPES OF PADDLES, BLADE SIZE, SHAFT OPTIONS, HANDLES & PADDLE LENGTH SO THAT YOU CAN CONFIDENTLY CHOOSE & CUSTOMIZE YOUR NEW PADDLE.

Even the best SUP paddle isn’t ideal for all occasions. Paddlers need to consider a range of factors to determine the best paddle for them. This five-step guide explains the science of how paddles work so you can confidently choose the right paddle for your needs.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We have collated some of the most frequently asked questions about SUP surfing and the Surge paddle in specific. If your question is not covered, on this page, in the 5-step guide or in these FAQs, you are encouraged to reach out to us for a personal consultation or support.
Yes, our Surge paddles are assembled with hot glue, this means that you can easily shorten. This is particularly useful if you move to a lower volume board as your surfing progresses.
Increased flex in the shaft is good for SUP surfing, not too much, but the right amount to enhance your use of the paddle while surfing, too stiff and the paddle tends to catch in the water when you use your paddle to brace or pivot, too soft and you’ll lack power for catching waves. Surf paddles are also shorter and hence the shaft needs to be more flexible because paddles get stiffer at shorter lengths generally. A slightly more flexible shaft will also help to reduce fatigue and protect your body against injury.

Bt far the most popular size of blade is the Medium which is 80.4 in² / 519cm². This is what the majority of our athletes use. Be sure to refer to sizing table to select the right size for your weight.

When ordering via our website the Surge paddle is supplied complete with our Paddle Bag, it is not a free bag and some US and international retailers do sell the paddle without the bag at an adjusted price. We strongly recommend that you protect your investment with a quality padded bag, ideally a Black Project one.

Yes, if your local SUP store is an official Black Project retail partner they will be able to arrange your new paddle. If they are not currently one of our retailers you can either buy online or ask them to get in contact with us. Refer to our Dealer Locator map to find your closest store.

We ship from our Maui workshop via FedEx 2-Day shipping to all 50 states, we do not charge for this service. We also offer low shipping rates worldwide via FedEx International Economy.

We want you to be 100% satisfied with your new paddle. If something goes wrong, we are here to help resolve any issues in a fast and effective manner. Please contact us for support.
Thanks to our innovative designs, quality manufacturing and attention to detail, our paddles have a very low failure rate. For your peace of mine, we have a standard 1-year warranty to cover faulty manufacturing. Thanks to hot glue assembly it is possible to replace any damaged parts.
