SIGNATURE SUP RACING FIN OF WORLD CHAMPION CONNOR BAXTER

Determined to develop the fastest fin on the planet, we enlisted the knowledge of Black Project athlete and multiple World Champion, Connor Baxter.

One of the winningest paddlers in the sport, Baxter took a lead role in developing the Condor—applying both his invaluable experience and our advancements in fin technology to create a world-class product.

Fellow Black Project team paddlers including Seychelle Webster, Martin Vitry, Fiona Wylde and Bart de Zwart also provided feedback, giving us a wider range of perspectives. This diversity of opinion has allowed us to better optimize the Condor to excel for different athletes.

A BOUNDARY-PUSHING SUP RACE FIN

This new fin is dramatically smaller than anything we have made before and is the fastest fin we’ve ever developed. Of course, pushing boundaries comes with a disclaimer. To achieve industry-leading speed, the Condor sacrifices some of the stability and tracking found in our other flat water fins like the Tiger v2 or Ray v2.


Reduced Cord Concept (RCC)

The Condor was the first fin in our collection to use the new Reduced Cord Concept (RCC), this has since been used successfully on other fin models. The RCC enables us to reduce the fin size, making it faster while maintaining tracking. 

LiteCore Technology – Our Lightest & Strongest Carbon Construction 

Our hand-laminated, ultralight carbon construction takes quality, lightweight and durability to new levels. The new layup featuring our carbon-infused LiteCore technology enables us to control weight, strength, and flex more precisely than before. The result is a paddleboard race fin which is both lighter and more resilient to damage. Each fin goes through a rigorous quality control (QC) process   to ensure the highest possible quality.

The Condor now comes with a fresh new look—a distinctive aesthetic that will appeal to a wide-range of paddlers. We included more info and specs on each fin, making it easier for customers and retailers to identify the differences between the models.

Disclaimer

The Condor is not for all paddlers. It was designed to give advanced and elite paddlers a competitive edge during races where fractions of a second make the difference between winning and losing. It is best suited to paddlers who are extremely confident with their boards. It is best used on boards that have good tracking built in, and/or fin boxes that are closer to the tail (boards where the fin box is a long way forward often require a slightly bigger fin e.g. Tiger). If you are a confident paddler, then the Condor is an excellent opportunity for you to stretch your board handling and paddling skills, but it is a good idea not to use it in a race until you are well practiced in a range of conditions.

HOW DOES THE CONDOR FIT INTO THE SUP RACE FIN COLLECTION?

The Condor SUP fin is the smallest fin in our 2022 race fin lineup. It is ideally suited for advanced and professional paddlers looking for extra speed while chasing race wins. When the Condor was introduced it was an outlier but thanks to its success it has since been used to inspire the development of the new Tiger and Ray fins.

WHO WILL BENEFIT THE MOST FROM THE CONDOR SUP RACE FIN?

The Condor is best-suited for expert paddlers with excellent board handling skills looking for some extra speed. It was designed to be paddled with a high cadence using foot and paddle steering techniques, rather than relying on increased fin size to achieve tracking. The smaller size of the Condor offers a higher potential speed without sacrificing too much tracking thanks to the new foil and 18 cm depth.

The new Reduced Cord Concept (RCC) combined with a newly optimized foil enables us to reduce the fin size while maintaining tracking. It also increases board tuning options as the Condor can be moved forward and aft, even in short fin boxes – move your fin forward for more pivot and back for increased tracking. As board technology has developed and provided paddlers with better stability and tracking, it has allowed us to design a smaller fin. 

Of course, just because the Condor is cutting-edge doesn’t mean you can expect to install this fin and win right away. Getting used to a smaller fin takes practice, so we suggest adding the Condor to your quiver and use it in training. Then once your GPS device confirms that you are faster in a range of different conditions, you can confidently make the switch and reap the benefits of the Condor’s unrivaled speed advantage.

Was so pleasantly surprised when I ran this fin for the first time. My first thought was it would wander as it has so little surface area. To my surprise the fin tracked the same as my tiger and was ever so slightly faster for me. I did an alternating 1 mile course with one turn at the 1/2 mile mark. Ive run this fin on multiple board with very favorable results. Not sure how Chris made this little fin work so well but the GPS does not lie. Awesome fin!

Given the small size of the Condor, I was expecting a difficult tracking before I tested it – but the result was really amazing: I could still get a very good tracking while having a super average speed. I’m using it on my Lightcorp Signature 2.0 in both, 22″ and 23″ and this fin works perfect on these boards – this fin gives you for sure extra speed. This fin is really the best I’ve ever tested and is ideal for training and I will probably use it in my races!
