THE NEXT GENERATION OF SUPER PADDLES

Offering a greatly enhanced paddling experience, the Hydro SynergyX empowers you to achieve increased board speed, maintain a higher paddling cadence, and paddle for extended durations. In partnership with world champions Seychelle Webster and Arthur Arutkin, and drawing inspiration from the success of the Hydro series, this new Black Project paddle has been meticulously tuned to dominate middle and long distance races. To achieve a combination of race winning speed and endurance, the blade has been optimized for efficiency. With a moderate blade angle of 10°, a narrower entry, and thinner blade profile, each paddle stroke is effortlessly smooth with an easy catch. The wider blade shoulders and medium depth Power Scoop give the option to increase power if needed during competitive racing or higher intensity paddle workouts.

TOUR CARBON – OVAL TAPER SHAFT

The all-new Tour Carbon shaft series is a key component of the Hydro SynergyX that brings reduced weight, added power, responsiveness, grip, and comfort. The tapered oval design increases stiffness in the lower shaft area for enhanced stability and power transfer to the blade. The more flexible and thinner round upper section helps to reduce fatigue. The oval-shaped middle-grip area provides a directional feel and a secure grip with a natural carbon-textured matte finish. Our lightest, most responsive shafts are built with 30T carbon. The Tour series offers four distinct profiles, each with various length and stiffness options.

POWERGRIP HANDLE

The award-winning hollow carbon PowerGrip ensures that every ounce of effort is translated into forward motion; the ergonomic design maintains comfort throughout extended paddling sessions.

REACT+ TECHNOLOGY (RE+T)

Unveiling our latest innovation, the Hydro Synergy introduces REACT+ Technology (RE+T). This incorporates two external 30T UD carbon plates, amplifying blade power, responsiveness, and energy return. Strategically placing these laminates on the outer layer of the structure multiplies the overall effect, resulting in an impressive stiffness-to-weight ratio. The RE+T is tuned for each blade size, ensuring optimal flex tailored to paddler size.

ADVANCED PADDLE TECHNOLOGY (AFT & PST)

Utilizing our Advanced Flow with Power Scoop technology and built with 30T carbon and Kevlar, this is the fastest and most responsive paddle on the market. If you are serious about winning, the Hydro SynergyX belongs in your paddle quiver for long-distance racing.

PADDLE BAG INCLUDED

All Hydro SynergyX paddles come complete with our Paddle Bag ($125 value).

  1. A great paddle with leading edge technology!

    jimemery3-December 19, 2024 at 8:03 am

I have been interested for some time in moving from a small BP blade to a medium blade to see if I could achieve further paddling improvement/efficiency (AKA speed) without shoulder soreness or injury. Communicating and working with Chris Freeman I opted to try a medium blade and, with Chris’ suggestion, went with the Tour Carbon 80 shaft stiffness vs. the 70 for a little more flex and forgiveness. After several paddling sessions I think I have hit on the right combination. The medium blade definitely allows me to pull more water while the Tour Carbon 80 shaft provides the right amount of flex without loss of power. I am very happy with this combination and look forward to more paddling sessions. In addition, this is a great looking paddle and well constructed! My experience with BP and working with Chris has been exceptional!

  2. Awesome purchase and I take my gear seriously

    Jason Randolph-November 5, 2024 at 12:39 pm

I’m relatively new to paddle boarding, and as I started out, I was using a pretty basic paddle. I had a feeling it wasn’t as efficient as it could be, but I didn’t realize just how much it was holding me back until I upgraded to the SynergyX. After talking with Chris, who took the time to discuss my specific needs and preferences, I decided to place the order.

When the paddle arrived, I was genuinely blown away by the difference and build quality. The propulsion I get now is so much stronger and more efficient—it almost feels like I’m gliding with every stroke. The paddle itself is incredibly sturdy, and there’s absolutely no flex, which gives me a solid, dependable feel with every movement.

Even my girlfriend noticed the difference when she picked it up. She immediately commented on how much lighter it feels compared to her own paddle. If you’re looking for a serious upgrade, I’d highly recommend picking one up. It’s made a huge impact on my paddle boarding experience.

  3. You need to listen to this paddle it will teach you. Most versatile paddle I own.

    James Mullen-October 30, 2024 at 6:51 am

    Paddler stats, 6’6″ (198cm) 235# (106kg)

I bought my first SynergyX specifically to use when I race on a dugout. I have been using it multiple times a week training and racing for about 3 months. I have found that this paddle does not like to be hurried through the stroke process. It will talk to you while you are out training/racing if you listen. Obviously, the louder it talks to me the more I need to listen and respond with improved form. You will not hear a word when you do your job! Listen and be rewarded, or blame the paddle and waste time and energy. I find that I have to be patient in the catch(fully buried) and then I can really load this paddle through the whole stroke with a great snap at the end. This paddle is still teaching me! I would guess if you have a problem with this paddle’s performance it is you. This is a lot of paddle. I just ordered my second for downwinding on my concave deck with a longer shaft length. Dugout/race length 84in downwind is 86in.

Versatility, this paddle could be a do it all paddle. I recently started using it on my downwind board because the Lima XL I have been using is heavy(2pc) and I felt like it I was loosing traction getting onto swells and waves. I was looking at other market paddle options and reached out to Hippo and considered the Lima 2xl blade. Customer service and insight from both companies was a no response. I decided to give my current SynergyX another go downwinding just to see how I liked the blades performance. Funny how things work out! The more I use this paddle the more I learn. This paddle can sprint very well to get up on a wave with short strokes provided I have done my job and nailed the catch. It has a super strong hold and I feel like all of my torque is generated in moving forward. I would have zero hesitation to use this paddle for any paddling discipline the more I use it the more I learn.

One of the little talked about features of this paddle is its eject. Whatever is going on in the core of this paddle makes it extremely buoyant and if you push the blade down into the water it wants to shoot back out. Having a paddle eject like this takes off strain in recovery and adds to efficiency. Add in the light weight and it really is a great feature that can help increase cadence or reduce fatigue over long distance.

Customer care, why I just ordered a second SynX? I always explore all of my options when it comes time to add equipment. Out of all of the people I reached out to this time Chris was the only one who responded. Chris and BP customer care have remained consistent through all of my purchase processes with them. This does not mean that other products are not as good, but when you spend the money because you want the best then customer care is a part of the purchase. I know that whatever my concern may be BP will take care of it asap. That counts. The SUP industry has some great manufactures and great products, but it sorely lacks when it comes to customer interaction for the products they produce. Thanks BP/Chris for taking the time it was an easy decision to hit the pay now!

  4. Top-of-the-Line!

    Lance Shaw-October 7, 2024 at 5:29 am

This is my third BP race paddle and I’m absolutely loving this new Hydro SynergyX. I originally got the 70 flex shaft and it felt really stiff right off the bat. I could feel the stress on my lats and that developed into some persistent middle/lateral back pain. After communicating with Chris he recommended the 80 flex shaft and that made the difference. I’ve paddled three days in a row now and no more stress/pain.

  5. Far Exceeded Expectations

    robrien128-August 24, 2024 at 9:26 pm

I’ve used Black Project paddles since I was introduced to SUPs about three years ago. In July 2024 I spoke with Chris Freeman and we configured a SynergyX paddle that optimally mirrored my goals. My current SUP is a Flying Fish Freedom 14×25. As a paddler in Long Island, NY I’m mostly on rivers, sounds, bays, harbors and even creeks. Maybe a third of the time I’ll be on open water but not surf. I do occasionally race in various local charity events. I can say unequivocally that my SynergyX Paddle is a game changer. The performance boost is unreal. I’m so much faster than I was with my previous BP paddle. Maybe it’s the flexible Tour Carbon 90 shaft or the small blade but I think it is the overall design brilliance that makes it so good. And, my fatigue factor is a fraction of what it was in the recent past. Lastly, I was to thank Chris who worked with me every step of the way. His patience and expertise were very much appreciated. I am a very satisfied customer.

  6. Hydro SynergyX, I have been waiting for this paddle :-)

    adrian.cahenzli-August 13, 2024 at 3:14 am

The paddle sits incredibly well in the hand and is well balanced. Thanks to the fact that the blade is slightly rounded, you have a constant but not too hard pull on the paddle. Perfect for long distance races.

  7. Doesn’t get any better than the BlackProject Hydro Synergy X paddle i

    Deborah Dryden-August 5, 2024 at 3:43 pm

BlackProject paddles have been my go to paddles for the last 4 years. I have owned 2 Hydro Flow X and didn’t think there was anything better until I received my new Hydro Synergy X. The oval taper shift grips is like no other. I love the feel and grip of it! The blade design makes each stroke feel effortless resulting in less fatigue and faster overall performance. BP customer for life 🖤

  8. Incredibly light

    David Klamm-July 17, 2024 at 6:48 pm

I want to first give props to Chris for being so excellent and helpful in his communication. Living in the midwest there is limited access to trying out different gear and Chris has always been gracious with me in providing a detailed response to help me figure out if I’m buying the right paddle. I’ve loved my Hydro Flow X and still do but needed something a little less strenuous on the shoulders as I have that wonderful thing called arthritis. Going from a L paddle to a M has been a bit of an adjustment, but as many others have said it’s been great for my longer paddle days and doesn’t leave me quite so achy. I really love the tapered shaft and it’s just ridiculously lightweight so the only excuse for getting fatigued comes down to my fitness level. As always, the BP crew has delivered again.

  9. Hydro SynergyX - A perfect Paddle

    andreas.matiatos-July 16, 2024 at 11:34 pm

I recently purchased a Hydro SynergyX paddle, and I must say it exceeded my expectations in several key areas. Here’s a breakdown of my experience:
The first thing you notice about the Hydro SynergyX is its sleek, streamlined design. The paddle is constructed with high-quality carbon fiber, making it incredibly lightweight yet durable. The attention to detail in the craftsmanship is evident, with a flawless finish and ergonomic handle that provides a comfortable grip, even during prolonged use. The blade design allows for maximum efficiency with each stroke, translating to better speed and less fatigue. Beyond its functionality, the Hydro SynergyX is visually appealing. The black carbon fiber combined with subtle branding gives a nice look specially in comparison with last gen paddles that had yet carbon but silver finish.
Overall, the Black Project Hydro SynergyX paddle is an outstanding piece of equipment. It combines cutting-edge technology with thoughtful design, resulting in a paddle that enhances the paddling experience in every way.

  10. Comparison to the Hydro Flow X

    jmarcin-July 11, 2024 at 1:17 pm

Upgrading to the Synergy from the FlowX has been worth it for me. Most importantly, the Synergy is easier on my tendinitis prone shoulders. I’m in between a medium and small blade but prefer the medium. The catch is less jarring, and the power phase feels smoother, yet still plenty locked in. Pretty cool! Since I do shorter races I was a little worried i might loose some power, but I haven’t found that to be the case really. My cadence has increased a little bit over the Flow X. And of course, the fit, finish, and attention to detail of this paddle is first class!

  11. Best paddle for racing and down winding

    kyle-July 10, 2024 at 11:59 am

I’ve been using this paddle now for several months. This paddle is easy on the shoulders and perfect for any race or paddle over 5 miles. I am able to keep a constant stroke rate of 50-53 even towards the end of the race. In the final stretch you are able to hold a higher rate since you have some gas left because of the ease of the catch. I’ve used it on several downwinders as well very easy to get a few quick taps in to catch the glide. This paddle can do it all!!
    My set up 6’1 195lbs
    Large Blade 65 flex

  12. SynergyX is Numero Uno!

    Miles-July 10, 2024 at 11:58 am

Good lord, the BP Team has nailed it on the SynergyX! I “misplaced” my much loved HydroFlow and Chris suggested this gem as a replacement and BIG upgrade! And as others have noted the beauty, weight, speed of entry and exit and ergonomics are unbeatable. The new blade design has an immediate flawless feel to each catch.
I ride a 2024 Starboard Allstar and this paddle matches the high performance for me, a now perfect combo! I prefer the Medium Blade for smoothness and avoidance of impact on my rails and the new carbon shaft is even more comfortable, even better for my shoulders.
    Thanks to y’all!

  13. My new favorite paddle.

    gentsch-July 8, 2024 at 4:25 pm

I loved my SprintX the best of all my racing paddles… that is until I held a friends SynergyX.
It was ridiculously light and just looked amazing. I ordered one that weekend. The paddle arrived well packed in a padded bag big enough for both my
*X paddles. I ordered an XL with Flex45 because I am a bigger, yet older guy. The paddle catches well, but not with the almost stuck in the mud of the SprintX…it holds well through the stroke. I was a little concerned the XL might wear me out on multi-hour workouts, but despite the size it feels like a paddle much smaller in terms of effort. My speed is very nice at traveling heartrates (2/3). I really recommend the latest paddles BP is producing, the SprintX for less than 5km and SynergyX for longer races.

  14. A synergy x for sup fishing?

    SaltFly-July 8, 2024 at 10:37 am

Yes, for sup fishing! I usually have long trips, 6 to 10 NM chasing fish, conditions variable, fighting tides and wind. First impressions, great craftsmanship and quality, light and well balanced. First trip 7 nm, gain half a knot with same effort!, AFT and PST work as promised, What a great paddle! For those out there looking to improve speed with less effort this is the way to go. more to come as I’m planing a longer trip in July.

  15. My go to paddle

    Marty Houston-July 8, 2024 at 3:13 am

I have the new SynergyX in the large and XL blade sizes with 65 and 50 flex respectively. I also own the first generation Hydro SprintX with L blade and the FlowX with L blade. I typically do shorter races and training paddles of 5 kilometers or less, but do a 10k race a couple times a season. The new SynergyX is a big improvement over the FlowX, it has a smoother catch and feels like it transfers power much better than the FlowX. I like the increased blade angle compared to the SprintX which is why I decided to buy the XL SynergyX. I find that with the XL SynergyX I can hit a faster top speed than with my SprintX and can more comfortably hold a higher average speed over 3-5k distances than with the SprintX. Also, I appreciate the crosshairs on top of the T handle to help line up the handle with the blade if you decide to shorten your paddle.

  16. Incredible design!

    trudylilenz-July 7, 2024 at 6:47 pm

Best paddle I’ve ever used! It’s a piece of art. The catch is amazingly powerful for a small blade. It’s easy on the body and feels like silk through the water. The handle is also amazing! The paddle is super light yet super durable. What’s not to like? Thanks Chris and the Black Project team

  17. Best Paddle Ever!

    geincdental-July 7, 2024 at 3:16 pm

Just WOW. Love this paddle. I did have both generations prior, but the new design is bad ass. It feels good, paddles good with less fatigue and amazing power transformation. I just paddled the long distance paddle “crossing for cystic fibrosis” with my relay team and we all had this paddle. Our team placed first.
    Thanks Black Project, amazing paddle.

  18. Great paddle for distance without the wear and tear

    Bradley Kelly-July 7, 2024 at 2:50 pm

Needed a paddle for the longer races to help my reconstructed shoulder out a bit. This paddle generates so much power and is super easy on the body for the longer paddles. Happy I pulled the trigger.

  19. The dream paddle !

    Johan BRETON-July 6, 2024 at 11:21 pm

I love this new paddle! I had the hydroflow which I loved but with the new synergy and its slightly ovalized handle, the pleasure is increased tenfold. The grip is great and the sensation is particularly pleasant. The water entry is also improved and the catch more effective.
In addition, I have significantly fewer blisters compared to my old pages (Qb and Bp).
    A real success! 😊

  20. Great Purchase!

    Liz Young-June 25, 2024 at 10:36 am

So very happy with my new paddle! Chris was super helpful with the sizing and I think it’s a perfect fit. I’m registered for my 4th Chattajack and am already seeing the impact of the Hydro Synergy X after just a few times on the water. Thank you Chris for getting this to me so quickly!

  21. Love It

    Kenny Puckett-June 6, 2024 at 3:25 am

After trying out my friends new Hydro Synergy paddle, I had to get one. After shooting an email to Chris about some questions and the urgency for the order since we are training for the Crossing for The Cure. Chris actually called me on a Tuesday afternoon spoke to me and answered all my questions. I put my order in that night and received my new paddle on Friday afternoon from Maui that’s what I call excellent customer service. As far as the paddle I couldn’t be happier, the catch is so smooth, and I know I’m generating my power because I can in see my distance per stroke rate. Thank you again Chris and the Black Project team for putting out a great product.

  22. Outstanding

    Florian Rouyer-June 2, 2024 at 9:47 pm

The quality is outstanding. After using it for a month, I can definitely recommend this product. The catch feels very clean and effortless, and when I need to apply more power, the paddle responds immediately. With the Synergy X, your entry into the water is never messy and doesn’t create any bubbles, ensuring you always move 100% of the water. This paddle is a real game-changer! If you’re serious about racing, this is the paddle you need.

A big thank you to Chris for helping me choose the right blade and flex. It’s perfect.

    1. Chris Freeman-June 2, 2024 at 9:48 pm

Thanks Florian, stoked to hear that it’s working well for you 🙏

  23. Best paddle I've ever used

    tack2501-May 25, 2024 at 8:20 am

Had the chance to really put the new Synergy X to the test. It took me about 20 km of paddling to get used to the feel, positioning, and catch, but once I did, AMAZING. The paddle is a dream. Great catch, smooth power, and much less fatigue over long distances. Came in 8th overall at the Carolina Cup Money Island and 3rd in the 18-49. Looking forward to racing it more this summer. Thanks for everything,

  24. Great investment.

    dfinn1000-May 18, 2024 at 3:21 am

I love this new Hydro SynergyX paddle. The catch felt soft yet grippy. The pull created tremendous power yet was easy on my arms & shoulders. I’m amazed at how powerful it felt considering the blade size (M 85). I was considering the Large blade but super happy I took Chris’ advise and went with the medium. Prior to purchasing I was very apprehensive about going to an oval, tapered shaft as all my previous paddles had round shafts. No regrets. It felt awesome.

  25. Worthwhile upgrade

    adriancwarren-May 6, 2024 at 12:34 pm

Love the Hydro Synergyx, had the HydroFlowX previously and loved that but the Synergy is my favourite now. It’s slightly lighter, feels easier to keep my technique good on distance paddles when tiring, I’m noticing less noise in entry of water. It cuts into the water a little cleaner/smoother too.

    1. Chris Freeman-May 6, 2024 at 10:06 pm

Fantastic, great to hear that it is working out well, I personally also love the super clean and quiet entry.

  26. The light tapered oval shaft enhances stability!

    aymee-May 4, 2024 at 8:28 am

I thought my HydroFlowX was magical, but BlackProject, you’ve done it again! The Hydro SynergyX is truly a game-changer. The new PowerGrip handle allows my wrist to rest, enabling smoother and longer distances without straining. The light tapered oval shaft enhances stability, making the catch feel smooth as the blade enters the water, like a knife cutting through butter. Additionally, the sleek black, red, and white graphics design gives it a sexy and slick appearance. I’m absolutely in love with it; it’s now my weapon of choice.

    1. Chris Freeman-May 4, 2024 at 8:29 am

Awesome!!! Stoked you love it 😍

  27. Injury Prevention

    juerg.geser-February 24, 2024 at 1:24 pm

Love how you can customize this paddle to your needs! I’m 5’10, 185 pounds on a good day, and just turned 54 in January this year (2024), the older I get, the more I enjoy long distance and ultra distance races (Sup11Citytour). But with age, injuries (pinched nerves/muscle pain between spine and shoulder blade) have been a challenge, especially last year. This is the main reason why I switched to Blackproject, needed a paddle with shaft flex that is forgiving enough for long distance, while still providing the performance edge needed to stay competitive. The blade also makes a huge difference, solid catch which gives you the confidence to really load the blade, but not to aggressive, just an incredible feel, no flutter either which is crucial to reduce the risk of injuries. I’m confident to put in around 1000 to 1200 miles into my training/racing this year with the new Hydro Synergy X, I’m paddling the 150/70 shaft with the medium blade, cut to 74.5”.

    1. Chris Freeman-May 4, 2024 at 8:35 am

Great to have you back on Black Project, look forward to following your progress and I’ll see you at the races soon 🏆
