I’ve been extremely impressed with the Hydro Nexus. If the Hydro SynergyX is all about finding that perfect balance of power and efficiency, the Nexus feels like a paddle built to give you a little more connection, control, and responsiveness with every stroke. What I really like about the Nexus is how natural it feels in the water. The catch is quick and clean, and the blade feels incredibly stable once it loads up. There’s a really satisfying sense that the paddle is “locked in” during the power phase of the stroke, which gives you a lot of confidence when you’re trying to maintain a strong race pace. I’ve found it particularly impressive when conditions get more challenging. In chop or when you’re having to constantly adjust your stroke, the Nexus feels predictable and easy to control. It doesn’t feel like the paddle is working against you, and that makes a big difference late in a race when fatigue starts to set in. At the same time, it has plenty of power. You can really lean into the paddle when you need to accelerate, but it doesn’t feel excessively demanding over a longer distance. For the 10K races I typically do, that combination of power, stability, and efficiency is exactly what I’m looking for.
Overall, the Nexus has become one of my favorite racing paddles. It’s responsive without being twitchy, powerful without being overly taxing, and incredibly predictable in the water. If you’re looking for a high-performance paddle that gives you confidence throughout an entire race—not just during the first few minutes—the Nexus is absolutely worth a look.
