The neck of the blade features an innovative design – Advanced Flow Technology (AFT) – that reduces turbulence to significantly increase paddle efficiency and enhance smoothness. The Deep Power Scoop (DPS) on the blade face works in harmony with our AFT to deliver increased power in a more controlled and fluid stroke. Additionally, the moderate blade angle of 9.3° makes for a slightly easier catch.

To achieve the optimal balance, flex, and weight ratios, we overhauled our construction and introduced new materials with a redesigned carbon layup. Despite having a higher blade volume, the Hydro FlowX is approximately 4% lighter (starting at 340 gr. / 12 oz.) than an equivalent size of the original Hydro, thanks to its TEXCARBON 30T construction.

The Hydro FlowX features a single deep scoop design with dihedral shaped edges. This design increases stroke power and delivers forward thrust in a smooth and controlled manner. PST is designed to work in harmony with Advanced Flow Technology (AFT).
ADVANCED FLOW TECHNOLOGY (AFT)
The proprietary Advanced Flow Technology (AFT) is designed to significantly increase paddle efficiency. By reducing fluid turbulence around the blade, unwanted lateral blade movements are eliminated. This increased efficiency leads to a smoother paddle stroke, reduced fatigue, and faster speeds. AFT is designed to work in harmony with our Power Scoop Technology (PST).
POWERGRIP
HANDLE
The PowerGrip has been optimized for maximum power, increased efficiency, and long-lasting comfort while paddling hard. Developed in collaboration with world champion Arthur Arutkin and Maui waterman Bernd Roediger, the wider and flatter back creates a secure feel that remains comfortable during longer races and workouts. Like all our handles, the PowerGrip is hollow to help eliminate any excess weight.

26.5mm & 29mm
SHAFT OPTIONS
Available in both standard (29mm) diameter and slim (a.k.a reduced) diameter (26.5mm) options, the Hydro FlowX can be customized to suit your personal preferences. The 29mm shaft is typically preferred by taller and heavier paddlers while smaller and lighter paddlers often opt for the 26.5mm shaft variation. All sizes are available in 1-piece or 3-piece (2 x HEX joints / custom built to your length) options.
TEXALIUM, KEVLAR & 30T CARBON CONSTRUCTION
The Hydro FlowX paddle is equipped with a 100% Texalium and Carbon shaft, the increased impact resistance of Texalium helps protect paddles against breakage. The silver finish reflects UV rays, reducing sun damage and keeping the shaft cooler on the water. Meanwhile, the textured shaft also enhances grip, while still being gentle on the hands. We paired this shaft with a blade and handle built in a red kevlar and 30T carbon construction for a unique and sleek aesthetic. On the inside, the laminates are optimized to increase strength and reduce weight, while maintaining an optimized flex required in a high-performance racing paddle.

Due to its design, the Hydro FlowX cannot be made in the same way as other ‘normal’ paddles. We overhauled our construction to achieve the optimal balance, flex, and weight ratios. To reduce overall weight, we reworked our laminate layups with a mix of carbon and Kevlar pre-preg laminates. We also introduced 30T carbon – a strong but lightweight carbon that’s 25% lighter than our previous material. Despite the increase in overall blade volume, the Hydro FlowX is the lightest and strongest paddle we’ve ever made. For example, a Hydro FlowX Medium with a Medium75-Slim shaft that’s cut to 74″ (188cm) is only 14.1 ounces (399 grams). This reduced weight translates into an improved paddling experience, while also being easier on your body.

We don’t think you need to be an expert paddler to enjoy the benefits of a custom paddle. In fact, it’s why we offer the Hydro FlowX in five blade sizes, two shaft diameters and a range of flex options to best suit your specific paddling needs. Choosing the right paddle might seem daunting at first, but don’t worry, we made it easy to identify which is the best option for your optimal paddling experience.
SHAFT STIFFNESS
This table is not designed to be a one-size-fits-all solution, shaft choice will depend on the paddler’s preference, height, and any previous injury. The recommended column is suitable for most people. If you are taller than average for your weight, consider a stiffer option and if you are shorter than average for your weight consider a more flexible paddle shaft. SUP PADDLE LENGTH FOR RACING, ENDURANCE, TOURING & FITNESS
This table is not designed to be a one-size-fits-all solution, and recommended lengths may vary by approximately 1″ (2.5cm) depending on the paddler’s preference. It’s easier to cut your paddle down than to glue on more shaft (especially with our hot glue construction), so we err on the side of caution by recommending the longer end of the spectrum.

Yes, our Hydro FlowX paddles are assembled with hot glue, this means that you can easily shorten. This is particularly useful if you move to different board or change focus.
Bt far the most popular size of blade is the Medium which is 530cm² / 82 in². This is what the majority of our athletes use. Be sure to refer to sizing table to select the right size for your weight.
The Medium and Small blades are available in either the Slim (26.5mm / RDS) or Regular (29mm / SDS) shaft variations. The shaft flex is the same and choosing between the options is personal preference. Smaller paddlers and/or those with smaller hands tend to enjoy the thinner 26.5mm grip while bigger paddlers and/or those with bigger hands tend to prefer the Standard 29mm shaft.
When ordering via our website the Hydro FlowX paddle is supplied complete with our Paddle Bag, it is not a free bag and some US and international retailers do sell the paddle without the bag at an adjusted price. We strongly recommend that you protect your investment with a quality padded bag, ideally a Black Project one.
Yes, if your local SUP store is an official Black Project retail partner they will be able to arrange your new paddle. If they are not currently one of our retailers you can either buy online or ask them to get in contact with us. Refer to our Dealer Locator map to find your closest store.
We ship from our Maui workshop via FedEx 2-Day shipping to all 50 states, we do not charge for this service. We also offer low shipping rates worldwide via FedEx International Economy.

Thanks to our innovative designs, quality manufacturing and attention to detail, our paddles have a very low failure rate. For your peace of mine, we have a standard 1-year warranty to cover faulty manufacturing. Thanks to hot glue assembly it is possible to replace any damaged parts.
