  3. Excellent choice for smaller riders

    I am a small rider at 5’3 & 110lbs. I got the adjustable lava in small for better grip and also allows me to try different paddle lengths. Am very happy with how it feels and definitely having a lighter paddle makes me more nimble on the SUP.

    I started with an adjustable Ohana paddle as my first upgrade from the run-of-the-mill aluminum/plastic adjustable paddles that come with iSUPs. It was a noticeable improvement and I really enjoyed using this paddle. When my wife started showing interest in SUP’ing she said I should get another paddle (!) so I started shopping around. I kept coming back to the Black Project Ohana paddle based on value, durability, weight and performance. I decided to get a fixed length Ohana this time since I was able to dial in my preferred paddle length using the adjustable paddle. This new paddle has been just as great with the added benefit of not having to empty the water out every few dunkings – my only complaint of the adjustable. I highly recommend this paddle if you are looking for a great “entry-level” paddle. I am 5’11”, 195lbs and using the L blade for SUP surfing.

    I bought 1 piece, M size, standard shaft one for SUP surf. Reasonable price, light weight, cool design, fast shipment, fantastic paddle bag, I’m not sure about efficiency of blade figure in detail, but totally in this price range, this is definitely the best paddle for me and I’ll buy another adjustable 3 piece travel paddle for touring and paddle training usage.

    I am relatively new to paddling and had been using a cheap, generic paddle. What a difference a nice paddle makes. The Ohana is light, comfortable and feels very smooth in the water. I had a noticeable performance improvement my first session with this paddle.

    I’m relatively new to the sport and while researching paddle options Black Project kept coming up. Everyone I talked to told me to worry more about the paddle and less about the board when first getting started so upon going through the site I landed on the Ohana fixed paddle. Other paddles at this level cost deep into the $300 range if not more! I ordered the paddle on a Wednesday and received it on Friday. Shipped to California from Hawaii! As soon as the paddle got into my hands I could immediately tell that it is extremely well constructed and every detail was well thought out. First day out with it my wife and I paddled 10 miles around the harbor and the paddle felt great on every stroke. If you are looking for an upgraded beautiful paddle and aren’t looking to spend a ton this is the paddle for you. I am extremely happy with it and will be ordering a paddle for my wife in the near future.

  8. This paddle delivers good performance without overloading my shoulder.

    Ordered a Ohana 3-piece for OS trip. Due to a shoulder injury I was after a small blade with softer shaft and this paddle delivers good performance without overloading my shoulder. Compared this 3-piece to other big name brands and found them to be heavier and have some twist at bottom join whereas the Ohana has no twist at either join. Arrived to door in Oz in just 5 days. Very happy and will be back.
